Capital Area Veterans Coalition

The Capital Area Veterans Coalition (CAVC) is a grassroots initiative focused on preventing veteran suicide through community action, connection, and support.

Our Mission

To reduce veteran suicide in the Capital Region through grassroots efforts and community-driven strategies that promote physical, emotional, and social health.

Our Vision

Preventing veteran suicide through community action.

Who We Are

Established in 2023, CAVC brings veterans and community partners together in a unified effort to strengthen support systems across the Capital Area.

Housed under the Capital Area Public Health Network (CAPHN), the coalition serves more than 20 municipalities in Merrimack County, including Concord, Bow, Hooksett, and Pembroke.

We believe no veteran should feel alone. By building a connected, informed, and empowered veteran community, we increase access to care, reduce stigma, and promote belonging.

Why This Work Matters

Veterans face unique challenges, including increased risk for suicide and difficulty navigating available services. Community-driven approaches build trust, reduce isolation, and help connect veterans to the right support at the right time.

Connection is prevention. When veterans feel seen, valued, and supported, communities grow stronger.

What We Do

The coalition:

Hosts suicide prevention and military culture trainings
Participates in community outreach events and memorial observances
Expands the Ask the Question (ATQ) initiative to improve identification and connection to services
Creates opportunities for veterans and families to build connection and peer support
Strengthens referral pathways across healthcare, behavioral health, and community systems

What’s Ahead

CAVC continues to expand its impact by:

Increasing suicide prevention trainings across the region
Expanding outreach at veteran events and local businesses
Hosting connection-focused gatherings such as family game nights
Strengthening partnerships to improve coordination and access to care

Get Involved

CAVC is open to veterans, military families, service organizations, healthcare providers, first responders, and community members who want to support veteran wellness in the Capital Area.
